Soil degradation continues to be major threat of Ethiopian economy, sincernit is extremely dependent on agricultural sector, even though a number ofrnsoil and water conservation (SWC) methods were introduced andrnpracticed. The major goal of this research was finding out the real impactrnof SWC on crop productivity in the highlands of Ethiopia. The study wasrnundertaken by u sing a survey data collected by Environmental EconomicsrnPolicy Forum for Ethiopia (EEPFE) in 2007 from two zones, East Gojam andrnSouth Wollo in Amhara Region. A total of 1760 households who hasrn5871plots were interviewed.rnIn this research a non parametric estimation method, propensity scorernmatching (PSM), and a parametric estimation method, endogenousrnswitching regression methods were used. Based on the empirical worksrndone it was not impossible to the study to conclude the average value ofrncrop production from plots which adopt SWC is less than that of the plotsrnwhich did not use the technologyrnKey words: Ethiopia, soil and water conservation, propensity scorernmatching, endogenous switching regression.
