The main purpose of this study was to analyze the practices andrnchallenges of communication in middle level TVET institutions in AddisrnAbaba. The study pointed at noticing the best channel and type ofrncommunication for healthy working condition in the institutes. In line withrnthis, descriptive survey design was employed. The study was conducted inrnfive of the six middle level institutions of Addis Ababa. In this effect,rnaccessibility sampling was employed. The respondents of the study were onernhundred and twenty eight trainers and twenty four institute heads and totallyrnone hundred and fifty two respondents. Information was generated from thernsubjects through a survey questionnaire. Different statistical tools like meanrnvalues, percentage, frequency distribution, rank order correlation andrnstandard deviation were used to analyze the data. The findings of the studyrnrevealed that the number of females was less than that of males in allrnrespondents. Trainers were mostly using oral and informal types ofrncommunication while institute heads mostly using written channel throughrnformal type of communication in their institutes. In addition to this,rnperceptual difference, information overload, time pressure and lack ofrncommunication skill were among the main challenges stated by bothrnrespondents. The outcomes of the study indicated that there was a disorderedrnand disorganized practice of communication. As a result, the workrnenvironment of the institution was not encouraging and this is disturbing therntechnology transfer, industry extension and training process. In order tornalleviate the challenges, trainers should be provided with full and timelyrninformation and institute heads need to be encouraged to apply face to facerncommunication, understand the communication challenges of trainers and torngive independence of access to all staff members.
