The main purpose of this study was to investigate the practice, successes and challengesrnof kaizen implementation in Addis Ababa TVET Government colleges. To conduct thisrnstudy a descriptive survey design was employed. The participants of the study were 80rntrainers, 40 department heads and 14 deans of five government TVET colleges. A totalrnof 134 respondents were included in the study. The colleges were selected usingrnpurposive sampling method. Trainers’ respondents were selected by stratified samplingrnmethods while department heads and deans were selected by purposive samplingrnmethod. The data were gathered through questionnaire, interview and documentrnanalysis. The data gathered through questionnaire were analyzed using frequency,rnpercentage, mean and average mean value of the respondents. Data obtained throughrninterview and document analysis were qualitatively narrated. Data obtained on thernbenefits of kaizen implementation respondents were suggested that above agreed. Thisrndata revealed that implementation of kaizen has a benefit towards employee, customerrnsatisfaction and cost reduction. Additionally, the study revealed that respondents hasrnpositive attitude towards on the benefits of kaizen implementation in Addis Ababa TVETrnCollege. Moreover, the study revealed that the success on planning, implementation andrnreduction of wastes phases of kaizen implementation were done properly. The studyrndisclosed that lack of training on the concept and application of kaizen. This has anrneffect on the overall activities of kaizen sustainability and standardization. Then thosernproblems were alleviated through short term training in the colleges by EKI experts,rnAddis Ababa TVET Agency and the responsible person of the colleges vice deansrnwhose job title is “industries extension and technology transfer in group effort”. On thernother hand lack of motivation (reward and recognition) was another problem to sustainrnthe implementation. Finally, I concluded that, respondents were focused only in 5srnimplementation of kaizen in Colleges. These were an additional obstacle to relaterntheory with practical application of kaizen at work place. Thus, to reduce thernknowledge and skill gap of the implementers on pillars of kaizen, training based onrnproject is an amenable force.
