The main purpose of this study was to examine the current status of evening education inrnsecondary schools of Oromia, identify the major barriers and indicate the major areas ofrnintervention. A descriptive survey method was employed for the purpose; and the data wasrnobtained from documents, observation, informal discussions, questionnaires, and interviews. Thernstudy was based on a sample of 384 persons: 251 evening secondary school students, 100rnevening secondary school teachers, 20 secondary school principals in 10 sample schools of 4rnzones, and 13 adult education officials at the zonal and woreda levels. In analyzing the data,rnpercentage, mean, median, range, and ANOVA test, were used. The result indicated that thernorganizational problemsrnat all levels were the major drawbacks resulting in poor qualityrneducation, poor supply of support services, and thus, low demand for the program that causedrnacute shortage of finance affecting the whole system at a vicious circle. It is concluded that thernproblem of the evening secondary education in Oromia is a function of organizational factors.rnThus, it is recommended that the regional policy makers and the educational planners need tornpay attention to increase the demand for evening education through improving quality of thernsupply.
