The study was explored material resources management in government secondaryrnschools of Addis Ababa. It was concerned with material resource managementrnfunctions, challenges faced for its effectiveness and implementation of policies andrnguidelines. To attain the stated objective of the study, descriptive survey designrnwas used. Both quantitative and qualitative (mixed) method (approaches) wasrnemployed in this research. This method helps to obtain first hand information fromrnmultiple sources. Sample respondents were drawn by purposive samplingrntechnique due to their direct relation with the issue under study and hence to gainrnsufficient information. Simple random sampling technique was also employed.rnThree groups of respondents participated in the study. These were school leaders,rnschool support staff and sub city education experts. Regarding this research studyrn5 schools, each from 5 sub cities of Addis Ababa City Administration, were selectedrnrandomly. The data was collected through questionnaire, interviews and personalrnobservation. Data gathered through questionnaire were quantitatively analyzedrnusing SPSS percentage, and mean values. Moreover, the data gathered throughrninterview, open ended questions, observation and relevant documents werernqualitatively analyzed. Having gone through these all the study found out thatrnmaterial management functions were not effectively implemented to facilitaternteaching learning process. Participation of stake holders in material managementrnfunction process was not run adequately. There was also lack of continuousrnsupervision in the area of material resource management. Based on these findings,rnsome recommendation was forwarded. Capacitating teachers, school support staffrnand school principals through training may assist users in putting these materialsrnin. To develop positive attitude towards the management of educational materials,rnschool managements may work closely with teachers, school support staff, PSTArnand sub city education experts. Sub city education office and the school setrnexperience sharing schedule for teachers and school support staff to learn a goodrnlesson from best practices in material management functions in particular.
