The main purpose of the study is to examine the implementation of cooperative training in somernselected Government TVET colleges in Addis Ababa city Administration. To this end an attemptrnwas made to look in to the duets and responsibilities of TVET colleges, organizations, Traineesrnand the major challenges affecting cooperative training implementation. In order to achievernthis purpose basic questions were raised which are intended to address the implementation ofrncooperative training. To achieve the purpose of the study descriptive survey method wasrnemployed. There are six government TVET colleges in Addis Ababa city Administration, amongrntheses three TVET colleges were selected and included in the study by using purposivernsampling techniques. The subjects of the study were trainees, trainers, college deans,rnvocational counselors and training coordinators in the enterprises. The sampling was carriedrnout through random sampling, stratified random sampling and purposive sampling techniques.rnTo investigate valuable information and to gather the required data, questionnaires, interviews,rnFocus Group discussion, document analysis and field observations were applied. For datarnanalysis statistical tools such as percentage, mean value, and t-test were applied. The studyrnrevealed that, TVET colleges have not undergone need assessment to search organizations andrndo not create awareness for industries. The participation of industries on the cooperativerntraining is small; the trainers are not committed for cooperative training implementation. Thernsimilarity of contents and the linkage between school based and enterprises based training wasrnbelow the expected. Moreover, the outcome of the study showed that, the preparation andrnorganization of TVET colleges to implement cooperative training was inadequate, the view ofrnthe trainers towards the cooperative training is negative. The curriculum which is implementedrnin the industry for cooperative training is not relevance. Therefore, it is recommended thatrnadequate awareness should berncreated by all at all levels of vocational education bodies. Therncolleges must take care as much as possible both in selecting enterprises and assigningrntrainees for cooperative training. The collages have to make efforts in creating conducive workrnenvironment that enable trainers and trainees feel free to participate actively in the collegernactivities.
