The purpose of this study was to assess the problems and practices of trainers on occupationalrncompetency assessment in Government TVET Colleges in Addis Ababa City Administrationrnwith the intent of suggesting way for the betterment of occupational competence assessment. Itrnattempted to answer the following basic research questions; what are the problems that trainersrnhave faced in the process of taking occupational competence assessment in government TVETrncolleges of Addis Ababa? What are the hindering factors that trainers faced in going through thernoccupational competence assessment in government TVET colleges of the City Administration?rnWhat is the attitude of trainers towards occupational competence assessment in the governmentrnTVET colleges of the City Administration? What is the most important reason trainer not to berncompetent in occupational competence assessment? In an attempt to answer these basicrnquestions, both quantitative and qualitative approaches of a descriptive survey method, a mixedrndesign were used. In this effect, questionnaires, and interviews were used. A sample of 224rntrainers were selected using simple random sampling and six out-come based training deans, vicerndeans and 2 training coordinators were selected by using availability sampling. The quantitativerndata obtained from questionnaires were organized and analyzed by using SPSS version 20.rnHence, frequency count, percentages, and the mean score were used. The interview data, onrnother hand, were analyzed qualitative method. The study revealed that attitude of trainersrntowards occupational competence assessment negatively outlook, discontinued of the presentrnoccupational competence assessment, the assessment centers lacked adequate equipment, trainersrnwere less motivated, feeling of anxiety and lack of psychological readiness during assessment. Itrnwas suggested that designing evaluation tools that cover the major portion of unity ofrncompetency , timely update the assessment tools, candidates should be psychologically readyrnthrough exercise and awareness before taking the OCA, materials and equipment should have tornbe fulfilled in quality and quality during the assessment time. Last not least institutional trainersrnshould capacitate their skill and knowledge with through continuous training and motivaterntrainers by designing different incentives. Finally, all responsible bodies understand and supportrnto be part of the solution in order to avoid these hindrances against the competency of the trainer.
