The prime purpose of the study was to investigate the institutionalrnfactors affecting trainees' academic achievement in TVET institutions inrnOromia Regional State, and thereby forward possible suggestions for thernimprovement of TVET programme in the region.rnThe areas of concern believed to be relevant to examinerninstitutional factors affecting trainees' academic achievement werernconditions of facilities, raw materials, trainers qualification andrnexpenence, services such as vocational guidance, library and health,rnprincipals qualification and experience, TVET curriculum and budget.rnTo this end, a descriptive survey research method was employedrnfor the study. The sample for TVET institutions was selected from twornzones of Oromia Region State namely: Bale and Arsi. The subjects of thernstudy were 200 trainees, 40 trainers, 4 principals/vice principals, 2rnZonal Education Desk TVET team leaders and lOEB TVET departmentrnexpert. Stratified, Purposive, simple random and the availabilityrnsampling techniques were employed to select the institutions andrnrespondents. Questionnaires, interviews, observation and documentsrnwere used to gather the data.rnSome of the major findings of the study include:rn• There was no vocational guidance service in both institutions. (rn• Although first degree is the minimum requirement for the trainers torntrain at these institutions, about (90%) of the trainers in the sampledrnTVET institutions do not have the necessary qualification.
