A total of 105 respondents that included teachers and school leaders were selected by simple random sampling and purposive sampling techniques respectively. Data gathering instruments including questionnaire, interviews and document analysis were used. In addition to these a pilot test was conducted in two Catholic secondary schools and the respondents checked its appropriateness and gave their comments. The data obtained was then analyzed using simple descriptive statistics, including percentage, mean scores, standard deviation, t-test and one way ANOVA. The results suggested that Catholic school leaders were perceived as effective in leading and managing the school community. Leadership styles practiced were observed to be mainly participatory. However, it was also perceived that some school leaders use autocratic leadership styles. Interview results also showed that school leaders used mainly participatory approaches, but in a few cases autocratic leadership styles were practiced. The findings indicted that most of the school leaders were considered to be effective and competent in their leadership positions. The findings confirm the importance of collaborative and democratic leadership in effective management of Catholic schools. The study recommends that there should be a concerted effort to maintain and improve the quality and capacity of managers particularly in regard to sharing responsibility with teachers and other stakeholders.rnIt is widely acknowledged that leadership effectiveness is an important factor in the success of Catholic secondary schools. The perception of teachers towards leadership effectiveness was positive by most respondents.
