The main purpose of this study was to assess the practice of participative decision making in the private secondary school of bole sub-city. To conduct this a descriptive type of research method was employed. Both probability and non-probability sampling techniques were used to select leaders and teacher respondents. Leaders were selected based on purposive sampling techniques while teachers teaching in selected 10 private schools located in the study area were selected using proportionate random sampling according to their proportion in contrast to the whole teacher’s population in all selected 10 private schools. Questionnaire and interview were used as data collection instruments. In this study cross-sectional research design was employed to study the prevalence of school leader’s participative decision making practices in the private secondary schools of bole sub-city in Addis Ababa city. The data were collected from ten selected privately owned secondary schools. Totally 169 sample respondents from teaching staff (139) and school leaders (30) were included. Among the distributed questionnaires, 139 questionnaires by teachers 133 questionnaires returned to the researcher, which means the response rate is 95.68%. Thirty questionnaires by leaders were fully filled and returned. The study revealed that the levels of teachers’ participation in decision-making in private secondary schools of the study area to be between low and average for most of the variables. However, teachers need to be actively involved in decision-making in their schools to encourage, motivate and utilize their wide range of experience, skills and capability to impute for effective teaching and learning process to be realistic.
