The purpose of this study was to investigate students’ disciplinary problems and its impact onrntheir learning performance in governmental secondary schools of Jimma town. A descriptivernsurvey research design was used to achieve the purpose of the study. In governmental secondaryrnschools students learning performance has received little attention in relation to discipline. Thernobjectives of this study were to determine the level of discipline and extent of impact of disciplinernon their learning performance among grade 9-10 pupils in the Jimma town public secondaryrnschools. From 4 purposely selected schools, 4680of the total population 234 pupils were selectedrnby stratified random sampling. Moreover, the data gathering tools for this research werernquestionnaire, interview, document analysis and observation. Data were analyzed usingrndescriptive statistics, percentage and frequency. Besides, thematic analysiswas used to analyzernqualitative data. Finally, the study revealed that, failure to do collaboratively with parents wasrnone of the main causes of student discipline problem. However as obtained from the finding thernmajority of respondents pointed out that there was poor communication between schools andrnparents that make schools unable to obtained support from the community.On the other hand, thernstudy also revealed that most of the teachers do not employ active and positive communicationrnwith their learners. Thus, students were unable to express their opinion and it was one of therncauses of students’ discipline problem.The findings of the study also revealed that lack of interestrnto learn, lack of follow up of student’s parent with their children’s daily activity, the increasingrnof illegal video and chat housesaround the schools were the major causes for the observedrndiscipline problems of students in Jimma town Secondary schools. Therefore, it wasrnrecommended that school administrationneeds to establish effective communication channel withrnparents, involve pupils and teachers inthe establishment and enforcement of rules and regulationrnin the school to form school discipline policy. Moreover, teachers and school community shouldrnhave needed to be goodmodels to their students.
