The Contributions Of Parent Teacher Student Association For The Improvement Of Academic Performance Of Students In Preparatory School Of North Showa Zone Of The Oromia National Regional State
The main purpose of the study was to assess the contributions of Parent Teacher Student Association for the improvement for students‟ academic performance of preparatory schools of North Shoa Zone. The study conducted in five woredas and one town administration out of 13 woredas and one town administration of North Shoa Zone. The study employed was the descriptive survey design which was employed qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection. Data were obtained from primary and secondary sources. The data collection instruments were used questionnaire, interview and document review. The collected data were analyzed using percentage, frequency, mean, standard deviation t-test and chi-square test was used. Some of the major findings were PTA has not been established according to the guide line in the school, PTA has little influence in the activity of the schools, PTA members understand the objective of PTA were not adequate enough, the extent of PTA contribution in school improvement for students‟ academic achievements in the schools is low and PTA members do not properly discharge their duties and responsibilities. Regarding to challenges affect the contribution of PTSA were not being able to get training and budget, shortage of time to support the school, lack of commitment and willingness, School PTA members expecting incentives for their services where the time spend in the school, lack of skill training, and PTA members‟ lack of confidence hinders them to participate in schools administration. Thus to improve the PTA members contribution, respondents suggested that sustain parent involvement and participation in school activities, conducting the necessary skill training PTA members, making the school environment conducive for participation and strengthening the skills of principals and teachers towards the role of PTA members participation improve the PTAs‟ contributions for students‟ academic performance of preparatory schools.rnKeywords: contributions, improvement, and academic performance
