The purpose of this study was to assess major problems affecting the academic performance ofrnfemale students in Woliso wereda secondary schools. To this end, descriptive survey design wasrnemployed. Both primary and secondary sources of data were used. The primary sources includedrnteachers, principals, education officials and female students while the secondary sources werernrelevant documents and school reports. A total of 152 respondents were included in this study.rnAvailability sampling was employ to select schools, purposive sampling and stratified randomrnsampling techniques were employed to select respondents included in the study.Data collectionrntools were questionnaires, interviews and observations. Both quantitative and qualitative datarnanalysis were employed in order to reach at results. The data analysis led to the following majorrnfindings. It was revealed that parents low economic status ,lack of adequate role model femalernteachers and early marriage were among the most influential factors on girlsËˆ academic performance.rnBased on the findings, it was safely concluded that factors the academic performance of girls inrnwoliso woreda secondary school was lower than that of male. Therefore, the researcher recommendsrnthat Oromia Region Education Bureau is advised to provide laboratory technician, guidance andrncounseling services, the Bureau is advised to search a means to assign female teachers in thernsecondary schools who can serve as a role models for girls. Woliso woreda education office isrnadvised to organize short term training for secondary school teachers on ways of enhancing girlsrnacademic performance. Finally Woliso woreda secondary schools are advised to provide sustainedrntutorial support for girls, so as to improve their academic performance.
