The main aim of this study was to assess Teachers’ Participation in Administrative Roles in Secondary schools of Addis Ketema sub-city, Addis Ababa city Administration. To conduct this study a descriptive research design was used. A total of 215 respondents (195 teachers, 3 principals and 17 PTAs) were participated in the study. The schools were selected using census while principals and PTAs were selected using purposive sampling and department heads were selected using simple random sampling. Respondents of questionnaires were selected using simple random sampling. The data were gathered through questionnaire, interview and Focus group discussion. Data gathered through questionnaire were analyzed using frequency table, percentage and mean value. Data gathered through interview and Focus group discussion were analyzed qualitatively. The study revealed that teachers’ participation in overall administrative work were inadequate. School Principals and PTAs practices in encouraging teachers’ participation in administrative role were found to be ineffective. Lack of training and support for teachers, the unbalanced relationship between teachers and school leaders, absence of financial incentives were found to have impeded teacher’s participation in school’s administration. Thus, teacher’s roles in school administration have not been given an emphasis in their respective school. This is likely to affect teacher’s interest towards activities of the school in general and teaching learning process in particular. Finally, to improve teachers’ participation in school administration, the study recommended for the need of facilitating conditions in which trained principals in school administrative should have to be assigned, providing reward to teachers with exemplary performance in their profession, establishing a collaborative relationship among teachers, treating and motivating all teachers equally and the school leaders (principals and PTA) should communicate and give clear information on the issues related with school planning, income generation and school budget and school building to develop the sense of transparency in between teachers and school leaders..rnKeywords: Teachers participation, administrative role, secondary schools, sub-city, administration
