The main objective this study was to assess teachers’ motivation in implementing active learningrnapproach in non-government Secondary Schools of Akaki Kality Sub city. To study this,rndescriptive research (survey) method was employed to gather the required data from the specificrnpopulations’ present condition. The target population of the study was secondary schoolrnteachers and the samples were selected by using simple random sampling techniques. To thisrneffect, a structured questionnaire was prepared and administrated to sixty teachers and semistructuredrninterview question were prepared and conducted with to three principals. Moreover,rnFGD and Classroom Observation were conducted. The data collected were analyzed by usingrnfrequency and percentage. Consequently, the main findings obtained from this study were- activernlearning approach has not been implemented fully. Teachers were also not motivated tornimplementing active learning approach. Among the factors the factors affecting teacher’srnmotivation in implementing active learning, leadership style, teaching-learning resources andrnfacilities, professional and training and development. Seating arrangement, Students interest,rnteaching load and incentives were the major ones. From these findings, it was concluded thatrnthere were teachers in the study area having low motivation to implement active learning.rnFinally, to minimize and if possible to solve the problems, the following recommendations wererndrawn; School leaders should encourage, facilitate, reward and create smooth relationship withrnteachers. It is also advisable that School leaders take corrective measures based on the rule andrnregulation of the School on those students that make repeated mistakes, teachers on their partrnprefer to encourage, advise and empower their students to have interest, ambition, eagernessrnand use active learning method.
