The Ethiopia Orthodox Tewahido Church, in addition to religious mission participates in secularrneducational activities. The main purpose of the study was to investigate causes of teacherrnturnover in Orthodox Tewahido church secondary schools in Addis Ababa. A descriptive surveyrnresearch method was used to conduct the study. In order to achieve the objective of the study,rncurrently working teachers and school principals were selected from 3 sample schools. Thernteachers were selected using simple random sampling technique and purposive samplingrntechnique was used to select school principals. Questionnaire and interview were the instrumentsrnthrough which data were collected for this study. The questionnaire was prepared for currentlyrnworking study sample teachers in sample schools. Beside to this, interview was conducted withrn3 principals and one assistant principal. The results showed that inadequate salary, poorrnworking conditions, administrative problems, students characters and disciplinary problems, lowrnsocial status given to teachers by the society were the major factors that aggravate the turnover ofrnteachers in Orthodox Church Secondary Schools. The data about the trends of turnover showedrnthat teacher turnover is increasing year after year. Furthermore, frequent teacher turnoverrnaffected the proper attainment of school goals, influenced the academic performance of studentsrnand overburdened the existing teachers.rnFinally, managing the problems of teachers that enhanced turnover, such as, improving salaryrnand other benefits, improving administrative support, improving work conditions, etc. have beenrnsuggested as solutions to reduce teacher turnover were suggested.
