The main purpose of this study was to assess leadership effectiveness of secondary schoolrnprincipals in Lideta sub city. The research design, both qualitative and quantitative approachesrnwere applied in this study. Primary data were gathered from Principals’ vice principals’rndepartment head’s, teachers and PTAs of the Schools and analyzed both methods. Additionally,rnqualitative data were collected from school principals’ department heads’, through interview,rnand from Parents and Teachers (PTA) through focused group discussions. Qualitative datarnwere analyzed after the responses were transcribed using respondents’ own words andrncategorized thematically. It was found out that the existence of principal’s leadershiprneffectiveness on the findings; scheduled work in the schools had many difficulties and therninvolvement of school principal and supporting of them were in poor level, hence there werernchallenges to get practice in the schools to be scheduled. The study further revealed that Thernfactors that affect principals’ leadership effectiveness in those secondary schools were, frequentrnreshuffling of the principals, lack of training about school effectiveness, un-willingness ofrnprincipals to share their duties for others, un expected work load of the principals were thernmain factors that affect principals’ leadership effectiveness in those secondary schools werernsome of the main problem hindering principals’ leadership effectiveness. Accordingly, it isrnconcluded that almost all of the school principals were not implementing elements of leadershiprneffectively leading core activities of their schools . Finally, it is recommended that responsiblernparties including sub city education office develop an agreement and create a network withrnUniversities/Colleges and high schools to be given leadership effectiveness in relation to teamrnbuilding trainings for teachers and school principals. School administration also required tornattained and facilitate the training which be held in the schools
