The purpose of the this study was to assess the factors that affect the implementation of CPDrnin Bench Maji zone of SNNPR States. To make the study valid three basic questions werernraised. Descriptive survey was employed and both quantitative and qualitative methods werernused. The samples used during the study were 110 teachers,10 principals,8 vice principals, 30rndepartment heads 20 CPD facilitators, 4 woreda teachers development units and 2zonernteachers development units184 (54.5%) participants were part of the study out of 337rnpopulation. And the data gathering tools were questionnaires, interviewer’s focus grouprndiscussion and document analysis. Questionnaires were administered to 110 teachers, wherernall of them filled and returned. The information gathered analyzed by using percentages andrnmean value through closed ended questionnaires, while the information gathered, throughrninterviews and open ended questionnaires were narrated qualitatively. The principals,rndepartment heads, CPD facilitators woreda and zone supervisors were providing insufficientrnsupport for teachers .The major challenges encountered were lack of training, lack ofrnsufficient CPD manuals in the schools, lack of trained CPD facilitators and lack of sufficientrnallocation of budgets. To overcome these challenges encountered, recommendation has beenrnforwardedrn1. Absence of monitoring and technical assistance for less experienced teachers likerninduction course for beginner teachers by senior teachers affects the scaling up of thernbest practices.rnThis creates confusion in the performance of newly employedrnteachers. Therefore the secondary schools need to assign mentors among seniorrnteachers.rn2.CPD plans in all secondary schools were not effectively implemented, portfolio documents arnwere not well organized, action researches were not done in the schools, teachers were notrnsystematical and collaboratively working to -lesson the challenges of learning. Therefore,rnprincipals and CPD facilitators along with their respective staff members are advised tornfrequently discuss on how to implement CPD plans.rn3. Every activity in CPD should have direct link with teachers day to day life.Teachersrnperformance of any practices of CPD need to be allied with their career development, so thatrnteachers would not be hesitant to implement
