The purpose of this study was to investigate the major barriers Affecting quality of education in Silte zone secondary schools (SNNPR). Descriptive survey design was employed to collect the quantitative data. Mixed method design was used to gather the data from the teacher, students principals, vice principals and department heads. Accordingly, survey questionnaires and interview guide questions were prepared and administered to a sample of 218 subjects containing 7 principals, 7 vice principals, 4 department heads 152 teachers and 48 students‟. Descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean and standard deviation were used for data analysis. The findings of the study indicate that the study major barriers affecting quality of education in schools of Silte zone secondary schools. Since education is expected to be of high quality of the perspective of physical facilities, class size, teaching resource and teacher‟s availability and competency were the major ones. Qualities of education were affected by school physical facility, large class size, teaching material/resource/, teachers‟ availability and competence were some ones. According to the finding of the study the conclusions indicates that, problems of insufficient library, inadequate laboratory equipment and chemicals, lack of available water, Poor internet access, non-functional plasma Television and lack of toilet in separately facilities were observed, the presence of overcrowding in large class which distorted the teaching learning system, lack competency and academic knowledge and inability to utilize scarce teaching resources efficiently for educational activities. Finally, carefully selection of competent and experienced teachers the need for breaking teachers‟ problem such as lack of academic knowledge and limited teaching methodologies and provided adequate teaching material like text books, duster chalk ,blackboard, stationary and equipped resource center were recommended.
