The purpose of this research is to investigate factors affecting employee’s motivation in AddisrnAbaba University, specifically at College of Natural and Computational Science. A descriptivernsurvey design with questionnaire was undertaken among 135 employees of the university tornanalyze their perceptions regarding motivation in workplace and identifying the key factors thatrnaffect employee’s motivation. In terms of approach, mixed method, where both quantitative asrnwell as qualitative data were combined and analyzed. The unit of analysis for this study is AddisrnAbaba University as a sample which has nine college how may among which College of Naturalrnand Computational Sciences was chosen.Respondents were randomly selected from employees inrnthe selected Colleges. Data were collected through questionnaire and interview of keyrninformants. Information related to the subject under the study was consulted. The findings of thisrnstudy revealed that, College of Natural and Computational Science employees had reasonablyrnadequate experiences to carry out responsibility and to provide sufficient information aboutrnwhat is going on in their institution. AAU has been working on the value of team spirit byrnpermitting employee to work with group and co-workers and supervisors. The study alsornidentified several intrinsic factors that influence employee motivation and AAU-employees arernmoderately motivated and much has to be done in order to bring about the intended workerrnmotivation. Furthermore, significant proportion of the study participants confirm that AAUrnperiodically provides challenging as well as interesting tasks to its employee. Finally the meanrnof (X=3.82, SD=0.95) and the result clearly indicated that AAU employees are giving priority tornthe moral incentives as well as physical incentives.The study also found out that faire payment,rnperformance based bonus, rewards, incentives in many levels; career development opportunitiesrnto employees are financial factors that affect employee motivation. College of Natural andrnComputational Sciences should appreciate the impact of the employee motivation in the long andrnthe short-term organizational goals and objectives. Finally some recommendations werernforwarded of which, Addis Ababa University should take into account both the extrinsic as wellrnas interstice factors that employee motivation at all levelsrnKey Words: Factors, Employees, motivation and University
