The Purpose of this study was to assess the causes of students’ drop out in primary schools in BachoWoreda of South West Shoa. Hence, it investigates the causes that associated with students’ dropout in primary schools. To accomplish this study,the study employed cross-sectional research method which is supplemented by, qualitative and quantitative research methods. The study carried in 6 randomly selected primary schools of Bachoworeda. A total of 110 individuals participated in the study. Among them 89 teachers were included as a sample through simple random sampling technique especially lottery method,,6 primary school principals, parent of students and 3 vice principals were included by purpose sampling. Questionnaires were the main instrument of data collection. Interview and focus group discussion analysis were also utilized to substantiate the data collected through questionnaires. The analysis of the quantitative data was carried out by using frequency, percent, mean, and standard deviation. While data obtained through open ended questions, focus group discussion and interview were qualitatively analyzed. Surveys were used to measure parents, pupils and teacher perceptions and opinion on children dropout. The results of the research indicated that there are three main factors influencing student’s dropout in primary school, to be more specific, they are: Students related factors (regular absenteeism from school ,frequent repetition, peer influence, students low interest toward education and pupils involve income generating activities),secondly, Parent related factor (parent need child labour, family divorce, low level parent in education level and family income)Thirdly school related factor(large class size, sexually harassments on female students, lack support to students difficult to education, distance from the school and unattractive instruction method used by teachers. Finally, the combined effects of parent, pupils and school factors were affecting children’s dropout from the school. Based on this finding, it was recommended that the government available different materials encourage the responsible of parent or community to prevent children’s dropouts, improve quality of education, work on sexual harassment problems, plan to support student in tutorial and creating new income generating activity in the family.
