The aim of this study was to assess the practices and challenges of school based supervision in EastrnWollega Zone Wama Hagalo Woreda in government secondary schools. To conduct the study, descriptivernsurvey design was employed. Among the 5 government secondary schools found in the woreda, 5 of themrnwere selected. From these sample schools, 46 teachers, 28 education leaders and 14 WEO experts werernincluded as respondents participated in the study through simple random, purposive and simple randomrnsampling technique respectively. Questionnaire was the main data gathering instrument for this study.rnThus, 46 teachers and 31 educational leaders (principals, vice, department head and senior teachers&rnexperts) filled the questionnaires. An interview was also conducted to enrich the qualitative data. As arnresult, 5 school main principal, 2 vice principal and 4 WEO experts were interviewed. Quantitative datarnwas collected through questionnaire and analyzed by using mean scores and standard deviation. The datarngathered through interview was discussed in line with questionnaire. Consequently, the main finding camernout from this study were: school based supervision was insufficiently practiced, the teachers didn’t gainedrnenough support from supervisors in order to improve their instructional skills, and there was lowrnperception of teachers towards the implementation of school based supervision. On the other hand, therernwere many challenges that those secondary school based supervisors come across while implementingrnschool based supervision. These were absence of key and transient intend to actualize school basedrnoversight, supervisors overburdened with different exercises, educators mentality towards managementrnwork, absence of capacity to compromise and execution guiding, absence of clear bearing from woredarntraining specialists and absence of helpful, genuine, amicable and collegial connections, instructorsrnobstruction and give convenient input where a test to supervisors in school based management. At long last,rnto limit and if conceivable to take care of the issues, the accompanying suggestions were drawn; thernWoreda Education Office in a joint effort with schools should give a lot preparing to school basedrnsupervisors, pre-administration and in-administration preparing for school based supervisors; Schoolrnbased supervisors in Wama Hagalo Woreda secondary school supervisors ought to organize acceptancernpreparing for amateur instructors in order to make them acquainted with the study hall guidance;rnexperience sharing projects and backing senior educators in doing activity research lastly the instructors'rnmentality towards management should be changed by giving them preparing or by conveying them therngeneral target of the school
