This study was intended to investigate the practices and contributions of indigenous church rneducation to modern education in general and school of reading in particular in three selected rnindigenous Church School of Addis Ababa Diocese. Descriptive survey design was used, and rnmixed approach (quantitative and qualitative) research method was applied. Purposive samplingrnmethod was used for selecting the sample of scholars, priests, deacons and laities. The main tools rnof data gathering were questionnaire, interview. Data gathered were coded, tabulated and rnanalyzed for each group. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics (mean and rnpercentage). rnAs the findings of the study revealed that the indigenous church education has its own Academic, rnsocial, and moral and spiritual values and it has great contributions to modern education by rnlaying a foundation for today‟s modern curriculum, instructional methods, and texts design and rnassignment techniques. The Nibab – Bet (School of Reading) has also a great contribution to rnmodern education by placed a foundation for solving a current problem of reading and rnunderstanding in modern education.rnChurch education has the following strengths: Learning in church education is active and rnemphasizes on cooperative learning. It enhances the capacity of rethinking, memorization and rnimagination; avoids repeated mistakes. Whereas it has the following limitations: It lacks rnresponsible body for running these schools. It lacks a suitable learning place. It lacks proper rnutilization of time; there exists wastage of time.rnThis study proposed the following ways transferring church education experiences into modern rnschooling. i) Exchanging experiences among each others. ii) Conducting research on church rneducation and applying its findings. iii) Encouraging church scholars to participate in modern rnschool to share their experiences.rnBased on the result of the study, it is recommended that the government should build a teaching rnlearning center like modern education to resolve the lack of teaching learning places; the rngovernment, private agency and non government organizations should support learners by rnfunding financially and providing learning materials and considering the contributions of church rneducation ministry of education should give attention and recognize church education as one rnbasic education centers for the society.
