Assessment Of Knowledge Attitude And Practice Of Nurses Towards Documentation Among Nurses Working In Emergency Department Of Selected Governmental Hospitals In Addis Abeba Ethiopia 2019.
Introduction: Nursing documentation is a required aspect of care which provides writtenrnconfirmation of discussions and actions that have been done as well as missed for specificrnreasons. However it draws criticism from professionals, community and different regulatoryrnorganization due to incomplete, substandard documentation. However, little has beenrnexplored about nursing documentation practice in health care facilities of Addis Ababa,rnEthiopia. Therefore; this study was conducted to assess documentation knowledge, attitude,rnand practice among nurses working in selected public hospitals of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. rnObjectives: the objective of this study was to assess knowledge, attitude and practice ofrnnurses towards documentation among nurses working in emergency departments at Blackrnlion specialized Hospital, Zewditu memorial Hospital and AaBET Hospital, Addis Ababa,rnEthiopia, 2019. rnMethods and material: Cross-sectional design; structured self-administered questionnairesrnwere used to assess knowledge, attitude and practice of nurses. The collected data wasrnanalyzed using SPSS version 21. Frequency table, graphs and pie chart was used to describernthe result. rnResult: A total of 243 nurses completed the survey 65% of participants were female with thernmean age of 29.5 (SD± 0.86). The score of respondents’ knowledge and practice towardsrnnursing documentation was added up and dichotomized into two based on the meanrnknowledge score which was 3.3(D± 0.47), and 7.45 (SD ± 2.07) respectively. Attitude wasrnassessed using likert scale and the mean score was 30(SD±0.45). Accordingly the knowledge,rnattitude and practice of the respondents 33.3%, 27.6%, 50.21% were poor respectively. rnConclusion: The study indicated that knowledge and attitude of nurses towardsrndocumentation fall in good and favorable range of mean score respectively. But the practicernwas poor among nurses working in emergency departments of selected governmentalrnhospitals. rnRecommendation: Based on the finding of this study, employing institutions need to creaternawareness and provide training to enhance knowledge, attitude and practice of the nursesrnregarding documentation. Researchers also need to carry out large scale studies in order tornaddress the problem.
