Background:-Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a common and potentially fatal clinicalrncondition that can be both preventable and treatable. The risk factors for the disease differentrnacross patients and general population which underscores the need for prophylactic measures,rnearly identification and prompt treatment.rnObjective: Assessment of the current practice of prophylaxis in venous thromboembolism inrnHospitalized patient at Tikur Anbesa Specialized Hospital according to the existing guideline.rnMethod: A Hospital-based descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from Feb, 2019Aug,rn2019rnat TASH, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Data wascollected using questionnaire administeredrnfrom the patient file and analyzed by using SPSS 23. The findings of study were presented withrnCharts, Figures and Tables.rnResults:In this survey 200questionnaire were administered from the chart of the patientwho werernat risk for VTE.78.5% of patients had high and highest risk factor for VTE. For One hundredrnsirity nine (69.5%)patients VTE prophylaxis was given.Eighteen (9%) patient had majorrnbleeding. Most 129(64.5%)were offered UFH while 9(4.5%)were offered Enoxaparin. Sixtyrnone (30.5%) patients were not in any form of prophylaxis. Mechanical prophylaxis were notrnused.rnConclusion: Most of in Hospitalized patients were at risk for VTE. More than two third of thosernpatients received appropriate prophylaxis.rnRecommendation:Promotion of optimal prophylaxis within the health care system is primaryrnand essential to strengths VTE prophylaxis practice. Reorientation of health professions at allrnlevels on the importance of prophylaxis of optimal VTE prophylaxis practice. Dissemination ofrninformation and education regarding the advantage optimal VTE prophylaxis.
