Solid waste management is one of the top priority problems in countries as a whole. Wolkite town like other developing countries towns has poor solid waste management. This is mainly because of lack of information how to convert wastes into usable materials and how to dispose, sort and recyclable waste in a safe and environmentally friend manner. The objectives of the study was to process recycling of organic solid wastes by means of biochar production using pyrolysis techniques and use the byproduct biochar for enriching soil as fertilizer. The method was purely experimental in the laboratory as well as in the field where samples were tested using laboratory and modern equipments.Procedurally, organic waste were converted into biochar using pyrolysis techniques in laboratory and Barrel kiln that later used for poor soil treatment to enrich soil fertility, which was proved by growing vegetables on biochar treated soil.rnA field trial was conducted using biochar as soil enrichment can improve soil quality and increase crop yields. The effect was observed when the use of biochar was combined with soil. The samples were collected from soil depth of 0 to 20 cm in both biochar and non biochar treated soil, analyzed for pH, % of Organic carbon (O-C), % of Nitrogen (N), available Phosphorus (P),available (K), CEC and Bulk density before and after the experiment. The result show that biochar application soil significantly increased pH (from 7.3 to 7.9); C content (from 1.35 to 2 %); N content (from 0.12 to 0.17m g kg-1); K content (24.6 to 28.5mg/kg) P content(from14.8 to18.7ppm) and CEC (from 58.7 to 60.96 cmolc kg-1).But the bulk density decreased (from 0.98 to .094g/cm3. Biochar mixed soil improved the yield of salads and carrots by 21.64% and 50% over the control respectively. Hence biochar produced from organic solid wastes could be returned to soils to replenish soil nutrient stocks. The increasing agricultural yields and could be a long term solution for the problems associated with organic solid waste management, enhancing the physical and chemical properties of the soil and increased crop productivity.rnKey words:-organic solid wastes, recycling, biochar, pyrolysis, khat wastes, nutrient.
