From different types of briquette drying technology, the open sun drying system is the most widelyrnused,rnwhichrnisrnfoundrninrnmanyrndevelopingrncountriesrnincludingrnEthiopia.rnrnForrnthisrntypernofrnconvectionalrndryingrnprocess,rntherntimernrequiredrntornremovernmoisturernfromrnthernproductrnisrntoornlong.rnInrnrnaveragernitrnrequiresrn3rntorn4rndaysrnwithrnavailablernsufficientrnsolarrnradiation. rnBesidernthatrnthernrecentrnrnimprovedrntypernsolarrndriersrn(flatrnplate-basedrndriers)rnhavernstillrninefficiencyrnregardingrntorntherndryingrnrntime.rnThisrnhappenedrnduerntornthernlowrndryingrnairrntemperaturerneffectrnthatrnlimitsrntherndryingrntimernandrnrnefficiency.rnThernmainrnobjectivernofrnthisrnprojectrnwasrntorndesign,rnconstructrnandrntestrnmorernefficientrnsolarrnrndrier compare to the recent developed dryer type. To prove the new type of drier performance,rnthernexperimentrnhasrnbeenrndonernbyrncomparingrnthernperformancernofrnthernparabolicrndishrnbasedrnrndrierrn(PDSCD)rnwithrnthernFlatrnplaternbasedrndrierrn(FPSCD).rnTherncomparativernassessmentrnhasrnbeenrnrndonernrnwith scientific experiment using different measuring methods and tools discussed in thisrnpaper. rnThe experiment was conducted in the Addis Ababa Institutes of Technology compound free fieldrnarea for both solar driers. The drying air temperature has been increased using concentratorrncollectors. The PDSCD and FPSCD absorber surface temperature, drying air temperature, airrnspeed at the outlet of the drying chamber, moisture content variation, the relative humidity atrnambient and inside the drying chamber were measured with unloaded and loaded setup usingrndirect and indirect measuring methods. The amount of moisture removed from the drying chamberrnofrnPDSCDrnandrnFPSCDrnisrn0.039rnkgrnandrn0.022rnKgrnrespectively.rnThernmeasuredrnresultrnindicatesrnrnthatrnperformancernPDSCDrnhasrnarnbetterrnmoisturernremovingrncapacityrnraternthanrnFPSCD.rnAfterrnanalysisrnofrnthernmeasuredrnresult,rnthernthermalrnefficiencyrnparabolicrndishrncollectorrnandrnFlatrnplaterncollectorrnisrndeterminedrn31.55%rnandrn8.95rn%rnrespectively.rnAndrnthernoverallrndryingrnsystemrnefficiencyrnofrnrnthernPDSCDrnandrnFPSCDrnisrn31.55rn%rnandrn8.95rn%rnrespectivelyrnwherernthernPDSCDrnhasrnbetterrnperformancernthanrnFPSCD.
