As saying goes for tourism industry to become successful, domestic and international tourismneed torncomplement each other. But domestic tourism practice in Ethioia has beennearly non-existent, withrnlocal residents mainly visiting friends and relatives. The study aimed to assessingthe participation ofrnpublic sector employees in domestic tourism practicesin Gullele Sub City, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.rnThe research employed a mix of qualitative and quantitative approach. Both primary and secondaryrnsources of data that includes questionnaires (280 respondents), key informant interviews andrndocuments analysis were used. The analysis followed descriptive designwith the themes emergingrnthrough qualitative and quantitative data. The researcher also adapts both probability and nonprobablity types of sampling methods to select research respondents. Data was analyzed and thernresearch found that there was a very poor participation in domestic tourism practices among thernpublic sector employees. This data was analyzed using both exploratory and descriptive. The resultsrnobtained from this research revealed that, more men visited domestic tourist attraction sites thanrnwomen. The age group of 18 – 30 was the most active participant in domestic tourism practices.rnEconomic issues such as low monthly income was indicated as the main constraint (58.3%) affectingrnthe growth of domestic tourism, followed by lack of time, lack of habit to travel for leisure andrnawareness level on domestic tourism. Additionally public employees participation in domesticrntourism has more also influenced by the socio-cultural attributes such as religion, cultural festivals,rnfamily condition, attitude, art and historical attractions (e.g., monuments, historical buildings,rnmuseums and art galleries). Furthermore, geographic/spatial issues included transport accessibilityrn(in relation to topography and transport services), distance of tourism attractions, infrastructurernavailability (accommodation, internet, information facilities, etc.) and climate condition affected thernemployee’s participation on domestic tourism practices. Hence, the Ministry of Culture and Tourismrnneed to exert more efforts, and apply combination of approaches in promoting and marketingrndomestic tourism practices among public sector employees of Gullele SubCity
