This study was conducted to examine the extent to which active learning method isrnimplemented in spoken English classes at Samara University. A descriptive case s~udl'rnwas employed to achieve the goal of this research. Four spoken English instructors andrnthirty six students which is a total of 40 participants were involved in the study. In orderrnto get relevant data from the target population, questionnaire, interviews and classroomrnobservation were used The questionnaire was administered to students, and therninterviews were conducted with instructors. The data collected through questionnairernwere analyzed using frequency and percentage value and the qualitative data werernanalyzed using textual explanations. Furthermore, the qualitative data (data fromrninterview and classroom observation) ,were analyzed together with the quantitative one torn~rntriangulate the results found from the questionna'ire. The findings of the study generallyrnindicate that active learning method is not sufficiently implemented and classes arerndominated by lectures. The study, therefore, concludes that recently introduced teachingrnmethods are not properly implemented in spoken English classes and so there is stillrnadherence to the conventional lecture method The result of the study also shows thatrnthere are serious factors that impede in implementation of active learning. As a result,rnthe researcher presented some possible recommendations so as to alleviate the problems.
