The overall focus of this study is to assess why Children 's Literature, Children'srnCarioons , Children's Drama etc., are appealing to chi ldren - whether this has to dornwith their mental process or cognitive development. Obviously not all literaturernmeant for ch ildren is attractive: however, we find children enjoying storiesrntremendouslyrnAn attempt therefore is made in this research whether child ren love or reject thesernstories (literature) for reasons related to their mental process, whether the givenrnliterature has something to do with their cog nitive leve l or understanding .rnThe study consists of two major sections. The first section which is from chapterrnone to chapter three, deals with the general theor-ies on ch ildren's literature, onrntheir types, genres, history etc. The second section presents a co nceptualrnframework th at has two subsections.rnThe first subsection deals with some popular ch ildren's literature and the elementsrnthat contributed to their popularity.rnThe second subsection presents the experiment (a to ol used to validate thernassumptions that were made in the conceptual framework). A simple experimentrnwith groups of children was conducted and their results are shown in Tables.rnIt is hoped th at the study, will throw some light on the relationship with and impactrnof chi ld ren 's literature on their cognitive ability
