This research aims at analyzing and showing the presence of paradigm shift in Ngug’s recentrncontemporary novel, entitled as Matigari. It tries to explore the authors’ reflection ofrnportraying psycho-active intellectual characters, the issue of motherism, the presence of hopernwithin characters since they are fundamental to protest neo-colonialism. And finally, thernresearch examines the role of these shifts in a certain society.rnThe thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter, introduction, tries to give enoughrninformation about the background of the study and its significances and objectives. Thernsecond chapter is review of related literature followed by theoretical framework in chapterrnthree. It starts by defining important terms and attempts to give the nature and concept of postrncolonialism and neo-colonialism in line with the aim of the research.rnThe fourth chapter is analysis and interpretation of the selected novel according to postcolonialrntheory. This analysis tries to find what Ngugi’s paradigm shifts are and their usagernfor a certain society. In addition to this, it proves whether the writer portrays his characters inrnthe same way or differently. To indicate and show the presence of trends in Ngugi’s novels,rnthe study attempts to make a comparative analysis by taking some extracts from the earlierrnnovels and compared with the current one.rnThe fifth chapter is summary and conclusion based on the analysis of the research. Thernconclusion recapitulates the core findings in a nutshell this can also serve as a spring board forrnother researchers.
