This thesis is a humble attempt to study the narrative technique used in Gracha Qachiloch,rnstream-of-consciousness in focus. Gracha Qachiloch was published in 2005 and has 462 pages.rnThe paper shortly discusses what narrative technique is and passes to discussing thernpsychological and literary background of stream-of-consciousness. It also discusses differentrnrelated studies that are done on the employment of the stream-of-consciousness technique inrndifferent fictional works and also other studies that are done on the different features of GracharnQachiloch.rnEven though the paper covers some prevalent concepts of stream-of-consciousness inrnpsychology, its major focus is the literary aspects of stream-of-consciousness as a narrativerntechnique. It discusses different studies done on the technique and its application to differentrnnovels. These studies have established different features of the stream-of-consciousnessrntechnique in fictional writing and these features are discussed in the conceptual framework.rnThe features of the stream-of-consciousness technique that are discussed in the conceptualrnframework are applied in the analysis of the paper. Numerous passages are taken out from thernnovel, translated into English, and are assessed according to the features as to what level thernstream-of-consciousness technique is employed in the novel.rnThe analysis part leads the study to the conclusion that the chief narrative mode used in the novelrnis interior monologue and that stream-of-consciousness technique is experimented as well. Thernstudy also concludes that there is a development of the employment of the technique in many ofrnits features as the story in the novel develops from the beginning to the end. Moreover, itrnconcludes that Amharic writers can experiment with the stream-of-consciousness technique inrntheir writings and exploit the Amharic language in a new way. And this in turn may diversify thernreadership experience of Amharic fictional works.
