Ethiopian children's literature is an area that has not been givenrnmuch attention for long even though it has a long history in Ethiopianrnliterature. Researching this area started in 1994 for the first time, thatrnonly focuses on Ethiopian children's literature in Amharic. But thisrnresearch draws attention to Ethiopian children's literature in English.rnThe overall focus of this study is to examine the cultural aspectsrnreflected in Ethiopian children's literature in English whether in theirrnwording or illustration. To attend to this objective the study collectedrndata from Ethiopian children's fiction in English and made a combinedrnanalysis of textual and descriptive analysis. The data comprises extractsrnand illustrations from the fictions.rnThe study reveals that there are some major Ethiopian culturalrnaspects depicted in Ethiopian children's literature in English. Thesernmajor cultural aspects are social roles, norms, beliefs, material culture,rncustoms and language. In addition, symbolic cultural elements werernexpressed genuinely even though the Ethiopian culture has its ownrnsymbol of expressing its artifacts and other aspects of Ethiopian culture.rnThe study also reveals that children's literature uses the illustrationsrnmore than the wordings to reflect the cultural elements.rnThe study consists of four chapters; the introduction, a review ofrnliterature, analysis, and summary and conclusion. The introductoryrnsection deals with the background of the study, the statement of thernproblem, the scope and the study methods. The review of literaturernsection gives a conceptual framework on culture and children'srnliterature. Moreover, it reviews related studies in this particular studyrntopic. The third chapter makes a brief discussion on the cultural aspectsrnin selected children's fiction in English. The last section comprises thernsummary of the whole analysis and the conclusion that is driven from it
