The study aimed at identifying factors influencing access to homeownership particularlyrnamong middle- and low- income employees of Bahir Dar.rnThe study employed the survey method, interview, FGD and physical observation tornachieve the objective. The survey questionnaire included both open-ended and closeendedrntypes. The analysis was done by using frequency, percentage, Pearson correlationrnanalysis and stepwise multiple regression analysis in order to measure and describe thernrelationship between dependant variable and explanatory variables.rnThe multiple regression analysis shows that, the independent variables are affectingrntenure structure at the extent of 0.783. Moreover, it also shows that the leading variablesrnthat influence access to homeownership among middle- and low- income employees ofrnthe city are age and saving. The qualitative analysis of the study reveals that institutionalrnshortcomings surrounding the land delivery process are the major problems that influencernaccess to homeownership. Hence, the municipality should periodically evaluate thernoverall capacity and process of the land delivery system. Furthermore, short term andrnlong term training should be given to the officials in order to make the land deliveryrnsystem more effective. Lack of access to credit facilities has been one of the majorrnproblems constraining access to homeownership. Therefore, different financialrninstitutions should provide long term housing loan with appropriate criteria and low orrnreasonable interest rate. Middle-and low-income employees should also improve thernhabit of saving by using formal and informal methods like equb. Moreover, it is better forrnthe municipality to improve low-cost housing projects in order make low- and middleincome employees homeowners.
