Land degradation is nowadays threatening millions of people in the world particularly in developingrncountries affecting all spheres of social, economic and political life of the population. In Ethiopiarnland degradation is one of the major challenges for agricultural development and food security. Inrnorder to solve the problem of land degradation, a lot of efforts have been made since 1970’s inrnconservation practices. However, these conservation techniques have not been sustainablyrnimplemented. Thus, identification of challenges in relation to land management practices is ofrnparamount importance. The study was undertaken in Lemo woreda, Haddiya Zone, SNNPR. In orderrnto achieve the objective of the study, both primary and secondary data were generated by generatingrnqualitative and quantitative data. 168 household heads were selected from three kebeles by usingrnsystematic random sampling as it is believed that the households are similar with respect to therncharacteristics that influence the research output. The process of analysis of the study was carriedrnout using qualitative description and quantitative analysis. The quantitative data was analyzed usingrnstatistical software for social science (SPSS). Frequency, percent, mean and chi-square taste whenrnappropriate. The qualitative data was discussed to substantiate the study. The findings of the studyrnindicated that decrease in productivity of farm land, involvement in off-farm activities, increase inrnsize of human population, lack of full cooperation of family members to involve in land managementrnpractices, low assistance gained from neighbor-hoods, less access to extension service andrninadequate attention from Woreda Agriculture and Rural Development Office are the majorrnchallenges encountering the implementation of land management practices in effective way.rnAwareness creation, continuous training, resettlement program, creating opportunities for alternative means of livelihood and promoting NGOs effort to involve in land management practices help solve the problem encountering land management practices in the study area.rnKey Words: Challenges, Land degradation, Land management practices
