In this study all species of Senecio or.curing in Ethiopia arerntreated. A historical survey of the genus with some emphasis on taxarnoccuring in Ethiopia is given. The morphology of all - species, pollenrnfeatures of eight species and the anatomy of two species arerndiscussed. A phytogeographical grouping of all species is made andrntheir distribution mapped (except for s. subsessi1is Oliv & Hiern, s.rnruwenzoriensis S. Moore and S. macrog1ossus DC). Twenty-five speciesrnare recognized and keys on floral and vegetative characters arÀ‡³ given.rnTwo species, viz. S. ruwenzoriensis S. Moore and S. macrog1ossus DCrnare reported in Ethiopia for the first time. A new variety S.rnschultzii Hochst. ex A. Rich var. 1anatus Mesfin & Otieno isrndescribed.
