Background: Information about gender-based violence against women from low-incomerncountries is scarce and may be under reported. The Prevalence of violence among pregnantrnwomen in developing countries ranges from 4% to 29%. The literature on gender basedrnviolence and pregnancy outcomes is not conclusive. So that this study will hopefully help torncontribute its own profit for the concerned bodies and gives clue to understand therndeterminants of violence and it birth outcome and it will also be taken as a baseline forrnfurther studies.rnObjective: the main objective of this research was to identify pregnancy outcomes of genderrnbased violence during Pregnancy among pregnant women who came for labor and deliveryrnservices in three teaching hospitals.rnMethods: A cross sectional facility based study was conducted among pregnant mothers thatrndelivered at three teaching hospitals: Gandi memorial, Zewuditu memorial and Tikur Anbesarnhospitals, to assess the pregnancy outcomes of gender based violence in the study population.rnThe sample size was determined using a formula for estimating a single populationrnproportion and 412 pregnant mothers were interviewed. Data collection was performed byrntrained medical interns and residents. Strengths of the associations and their statisticalrnsignificance was measured using Odds Ratio (OR) and 95% CI .Ethical clearance wasrnobtained from ethical committee of the department of Gynecology and obstetrics department,rnand written consent was taken from the mothers.rnResults- The prevalence of sexual and /or physical violence during index pregnancy and onernyear prior index pregnancy was found to be 38.3% and 31.8% respectively. The overlap ofrnboth types of violence was 8.3%. Among major independent factors, only Khat chewing habitrnby pregnant women was associated with risk of Gender based violence during the indexrnpregnancy AOR 2.901(95%CI: 1.302-6.463, P-0.009). Unwanted pregnancy was reported inrnhigher frequency among respondents who experienced violence during index pregnancyrnwhen compared to who didn't (p=0.003).rnConclusion and recommendation- Still domestic violence is a major health problem inrnour setup and further studies are needed to adopt a more comprehensive approach to identifyrndeterminants and pregnancy outcomes of domestic violence during pregnancy
