The main aim of this thesis is to reconstruct the socio-economic and political history of GuutornGidda Warada from 1941-1991.The study covers the time from the liberation of Ethiopia and thernrestoration of Emperor Haila Selasie I to power in 1941, the Darg period, in which therninhabitants of the warada like the other countryside peoples of Oromia region observedrnimportant socio-economic and political developments. It begins with historical study of thernwarada by revealing different developments in the areaduring the Italian occupation. Thernrestoration of the Imperial administration and the reforms that took place by the Imperialrngovernment in various fields, in relation to the administration and land related issues andrntaxation system will be the main area of concern. Moreover, the study attempted to assessrnchanges and developments that the warada had gone through the military government. The Dargrnwas interested to consolidate its power by taking different measures which had their own meritsrnand demerits on the political and socio-economic conditions for the inhabitants of GuutornGiddaWarada. Besides this, the study has tried to address the socio-economic situation of thernWarada in which the area has not made much progress.rnIn conducting this research, oral sources as well as written materials were used. There are onlyrnfew archival materials that could support the study. Thus, the study as a result, depended largelyrnon oral sources which were gathered from the warada starting from December 2018 to Februaryrn2019. To write this thesis, efforts have been made in order to support the oral information withrnwritten literature. Moreover, to avoid problems in the use of oral sources significant measuresrnhave been taken, in selecting knowledgeable informants, use of collected data, evaluating andrnchecking them with the existing literature was the necessary step that were carried out.
