Violating The Right To Development In The Name Of Development In Ethiopia The Case Of Integrated Housing Development Programme Of Addis Ababa City

In Ethiopia, a rhetoric of development has created a range of consciously pursued policies, laws,rnand practices. Among others, the notion is informed by a developmental state model whichrnlacked embedded autonomy. Development programmes are major vehicles. The IntegratedrnHousing Development Programme of Addis Ababa City is the conversion of farmlands intornurban housing units, a fait accompli. In this reseach, the unit of analysis focuses on thernentitlements to self-determination, participation, and fair distribution of benefits. Thernprogramme replicates the narrow notion of development in Ethiopia, violating the right torndevelopment of the victim farmers in the name of development. Therefore, this study argues, thernobjective of development should be mainstreaming human person at the centre and full platformsrnneed to be designed to restore the victims of the programme as closely as possible rather than arnfigurative language.
