Local Integration Of Refugees In Ethiopian The Law And Practice

Refugee protection is all about Human Rights protection. Because of the prevalence of pushingrnand pulling factors people may flee from their place of origin and cross the boards of foreignrnstates. Refugees need special protection in the country of asylum since they are out of staternprotections. Although different effort has been made by the international community so as tornsolve the problem of refugees, until the adoption of the Refugee Convention, there were norninternational standards that determine the right and duties of refugees in the world. Localrnintegration is one of the three durable solutions for refugees who had stayed for a protractedrnperiod of time in the country of asylum available to refugees in the Refugee Convention but it’srnreally found in many domestics’ laws. Even if Ethiopia had a good track record of receivingrnrefugees from different countries, but there was no compressive law that governs the issue untilrnrecent time. The current Refugee Proclamation is one of the progressive refugee laws whichrnallow local integration for refugee. However, the law is not compatible with internationalrnstandards. Accordingly, the definition is circular and is not clear as to the application andrnimplementation of local integration though the country has a robust tradition of receivingrnrefugees in the country.
