Abandoned children are considered as among the vulnerable group of the society; because, theyrnare deprived from family environment through means of rejection or physically abandoned byrntheir own parent or caregiver. The practice of child abandonment mainly violates child right tornlife, survival and the right to development which has a grantee under CRC, ACRWC and FDRErnconstitution. It is the main social problem for a long time, especially in Addis Ababa. Mostrnabandoned children in Ethiopia faces high rate poverty, less access to education and labourrnexploitation. The study mainly identified that, despite the constitutional guarantee for all childrnright, the Ethiopian legislation are not adequately address the issues of abandoned child in thernprotection of their right to grow and cared by own family and the right to get alternative childrncare. In addition, they stay in a bad situation within the care institution until transfer to newrnfoster or adoptive family. Due to such identified legal and practical problems, the studyrnrecommended to revise the current legislations in line with the best protection for abandonedrnchild and provide capacity building for parents and child care institutions in order to mitigaternthe number of abandoned children within Addis Ababa.
