Womens Participation In Micro And Small Enterprises In Debremarkos City And Implication On Their Right In Household Decision Making A Qualitative Study From The Human Rights Perspective
This thesis aims to verify first whether women’s involvement in MSEs improves their householdrndecision-making power from the human rights perspective. Then, it also tries to show the meansrnthat women’s involvement in MSEs improves their household decision making power from thernperspectives of human rights. In addition, it also tries to show the limitations that retards thernpositive human rights influence of women’s involvement in MSEs on their household decisionmaking.rnIn addition, it tries to investigate the ways that those constraints affect the positivernhuman rights impacts of women’s involvement in MSEs on their household decision-makingrnpower. In addition, it also presents the appropriate solutions that augment the decision makingrnright of women in the household through their involvement in MSEs.rnThe research shows that women’s involvement in MSEs improves their household decisionrnmaking right. It also asserts the existence of a variety of factors and constraints that retards thernpositive human rights implications of women’s involvement in MSEs on their household decisionrnmaking power. For example, it affirms the shortage of income acquired from the sector as onernmajor constraint. It also states the existing cultural outlooks and patriarchical gender relation asrnother constraints. It also asserts the existing low access to information and training and lessrngender mainstreaming perspective as factor for the advancement of women’s householdrndecision-making through their involvement in MSEs. The level of the improvement of their rightsrnis also varies from the participants marital status, nature of MSEs, and other socio- economicrnenvironment of the household.rnIt also presents the measures that is undertaken or is suggested to be undertaken by the sampledrnparticipant that can boost household decision-making rights of women through their involvementrnin MSEs. For instance, increasing their source of income, deep-rooted training with follow uprnmechanism by government officials, change in traditional attitude towards women by others andrnwomen themselves are the most considerable one. Finally, the research is recommended the needrnto find out alternative mechanisms for the following targets. To increase the level of income ofrnthe participant; to change different traditional and cultural norms found at different level of thernsociety; and to ensure access to training, information, and gender mainstreaming.
