The objective 0/ the study is to examine the levels 0/ contraceptive use 0/ women 0/ childbearingrnage in Debre Tabor Town administration, South Gondar zone, Amhara Region. Therncontraceptive use 0/630 (296 sub-urban and 334 urban) women 0/ childbearing age (15-49rnyears) and some correlates 0/ contraceptive use in the study area have been dealt.rnThe main rationale o/the study includes assessing and determining the level 0/ cOl1lraceptive usernand the reasons lor use and non-use 0/ contraceptive methods and provides inslitutions withrnopportunities /01' inteervention in contraceptive use. The study is cross-sectional study designrnemploying both quantitative and qualitative methods.rnThe current contraceptive use o/the study area is 34.3 % (38.02% /01' the urban residents,rn30.07% lor the sub-urban residents) whereas the ever use 0/ contraceptives was 39. 7%. Currentrncontraceptive use by age indicates that there is high cOl1lraceptive use in the age group 25-34rnyears compared to 15-24 and 35 + age groups. In addition, the main results o/Ihe chi-square testrnand binwy logistic model revealed that contraceptive use is significantly affected by the numberrno/living children, desire lor more children, educational level 0/ women, work status 0/ womenrnand media exposures. The knowledge 0/ any method 0/ contraceptive was 94%. The commonlyrnused methods 0/ contraceptives in the study area include injectables followed by pills, condomsrnand nOlplants /01' women. The two main purposes 0/ using contraceptives include spacing /01'rnchildren (50%) and limiting /01' children (33.3%) and other reasons (16. 7%). Spacing dominatesrnover limiting. The most important reasons lor non-use include method related reasons /ollowedrnby fertility related and opposition related reason o/the total non-users reasons.rnOn the part o/the conclusion, women as a whole have low contraceptive use. Finally,thernrecommendations 0/ the study forwarded include promotion 0/ lEC, provision 0/ forums,rndebates, trainings, workshops, discussions, experience sharing, educating women and providingrnoption /01' women, providing education on the benefits 0/ small family size and family planning,rnand enhancing/emales decision making and autonomy.
