The study analyses the demographic and socio-economic challengesfaced by womenrnpelly traders in the informal sector and the effects on their working conditions.rnThe main sources of the data used in this study were survey questionnaire and focusrngroup discussions (FGDs). The sample size of this study was 660 women pelly tradersrnthat were randomly selectedfi·om Aroda and Addis Kelema Sub-cities.rnIn this study uni-variate, bi-variate and multi-variate statistical madels were employedrnto examine the influences of different demographic and socio-economic variables onrnthe trading (work) conditions of women pNty traders. The bi-variate analysis showedrnassociation between the background variables and dependent variable except age,rnmarital status and level of income. The findings of the logistic regression depicted thatrnthe women aged 30-64 years faced a favorable work condition as compared to thernwomen aged 15-29 years. The women with large family members were more likely to bernin the unfavorable trading condition Migrants werefacingfavorable trading conditionrnless likely than the non-migrants. Those women who had no intention to have morernchildren face unfavorable trading condition more like~)lthan those who had intention tornhave if. Women with primary education were faced favorable work condition than thernwomen with no schooling. The women petly traders with a fixed premises and clients ofrncredit service were faced favorable work condition (han the women without a fixedrnpremises and non· clients of credit sen'ice. The start-up capital and/clvorable tradingrnconditions had a positive association.
