Crime related TV programs are highly influential. In our country there are programs whichrnfocused on crime and law enforcement issues. While focusing on the sensational and mostrnviolent crimes, it may seem the programs ignore the more common types of crime that are morernlikely to affect the viewers. This study focuses on examining to what extent media law andrnjournalistic principles are practiced in Addis TV police program. The data collection method ofrnthe research delivered in qualitative approach. To analyze the contents of the program, codingrnsheet was developed by the researcher from the review of literature. This helped the tone,rnthemes, sources of information, and frames of programs used. The researcher used purposivernsampling for qualitative content analysis. This study concentrates on analyzing Addis Police TVrnprograms which were broadcasted in 2010 E.C. To be specific, out of a total of 96 the firstrnprograms of each months, totally 12 productions were randomly selected. This time is selectedrnbecause it was the time that the public rally and demonstration reached its peak. The studyrnfound that the program is partial. The study found that the program played an extremelyrnimportant role as a propaganda machine of the government. Contrary with the reality Addisrnpolice TV program frequently told to its audience the law enforcement in the nation is at normalrncircumstance rather exposing acts of bad governance by the rulers. The study unveil that thernprogram played PR role. Crime issues are presented subjectively; it is not objectively designedrnin journalistic manner. The program played a role not only inform the public, but also changernthe publicâ€™s attitudes and behaviors to build the image of police commission like what the PRrndid.
