This study examined climate change-related news coverage in two widely circulated privaternAmharic newspapers, Addis Admas and the Reporter, published in 20 13. A framing approachrnestablished by Benford and Snow (2000), and later adapted by Yun,Ku, Park and Hanrn(2012:201 ) and specifically designed to apply to climate change issues laid the groundwork forrnthe investigation. A quantitative content analysis was conducted to determine the coverage, storyrnframes, dominant themes and sources portrayed in the news coverage; and semi- structuredrninterviews were held with edito rs of the twu newspapers to further explore how stories arernse lected and prioritized for the newspapers.rnResults revealed that the most conUllon frames in the newspapers are the "prognostic" frame, rnwhich focuses on the means of responding to climate change and the "After-effect" fi'ame, whichrnfocuses on the results of implementing climate change countermeasures. On the other hand, therndominant themes frequently discussed are the "conservation" theme focu sing on conservation ofrnnatural resources and the "mitigation" theme focu sing on mitigation of climate change.rnPoliticians and civil society organizations were more likely represented in story frames makingrnjudgments and suggesting so lutions-there were limited voices from the academics and therncontinuities.
