The aim of this study was to investigate the using of sources and challenges of social media on gathering, dissemination, and access to information in Walta TV. And also, get a knowledge base about the internet facilities available to journalists, skills, major achievements and challenges brought by social media. The study also investigated the influences of sources and the impact of the social media on the dissemination and gathering of news. It also sought to investigate the reasons for the current levels of Practice of using social media, and also identify the factors that inhibit the using of the social media in the Walta TV. Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used, employing a combination of in-depth interviews, structured respondent questionnaires, and observations in Walta TV. Questionnaire as a method of survey employed as a scientific instrument to obtain data from 50 selected samples in Walta TV. Also, the researcher conducted semi-structured interviews with 7 samples of manager, directors, and editor who are working in a social media area and who are believed to hold relatively growing experiences and exposures of directly working on the topic of research. A Purposive sampling method was employed to select samples for interviewees. The study's findings showed that the social media has a positive impact on the practice of journalists and that it has influenced journalists to engage more with news customers. However, it was also discovered that further positive impact has been inhibited by factors such as the lack of access to internet facilities and the lack of training on how to use social media technologies. As a final point, the result of the study showed that there was a strong need to direct priority to the expansion of social media infrastructure in the media organizations and also building the capacity of journalists in order to cope up with globalization the utilization of the social media potential was found to be insufficient in the media.
