Recently Ethiopia ratified the African Protocol to the African Charter on Human andrnPeoples’ Rights on the Rights of Women in Africa. The Ratification aims to implementrninternational human rights standards that will ensure the protection of women’s rights.rnThe ratification of the instrument was encountered by a substantial amount of reservations.rnSome of the provisions that are reserved under the Protocol are the new right that makes thernprotocol creative. Besides having the new features, adhering to the Protocol is therninternational obligation of the country under various human rights instruments. Therefore thernstudy examines the validity of Ethiopia’s reservation in line with emerging internationalrnhuman rights discourse that is ratification without reservation. The study also examines thernimportance of compliance with the reserved provisions of the Protocol to promote genderrnequality.
