Child Language And Baby Talk In Amharic

The child language lexicon in Amharic is not properly recorded. This created arnresearch gap in the study of the phonological and morphological features ofrnchild language in Amharic This study describes phonological, morphological andrnsemantic features of the child language lexicon in Amharic. Methodologically,rnthe research is based on the Amharic child language lexicon collected fromrnparents and their toddlers whose ages are between 2 and 5 years. Consequently,rn130 items were collected and their phonological and morphological featuresrnwere analyzed. In addition to serving as a benchmark for further studies in thernarea, this research also paves the way for similar studies in other Ethiopianrnlanguages.
