After the necessa ry data were coll ec ted, the resea rcher described thernmorpho logica l, syntac ti c, lex ical properties and intonational behavior of interrogati vernconstructions. Throughout the study, the declarative and interrogat ive are contrasted withrneach oth er and amply illustrated. In Allete, the interrogative particle -Ill is a lwaysrnsuffi xed to polar question s. The response of yes/no interrogatives is usually preceded byrnee 'yes ' or axay 'no'. One can a lso answer interrogati ves by repeating the verb. In po larrninterrogat ives, constituents remain in si tu. A special kind of polar questions are tags,rnwhich can be used in various ways.rnThe study identifies that. in co ntrast, there is no -Ill suffix in content interroga ti ves. Therernis no obligatory wh-phrase movement. Examples are given of multiple wh- features.rnAllete has an interrogation intonation. After the intonation of polar and content questionsrnare discussed, special attention is given to echo questions. The study examines therndifferences of echo questions in declarati ves, interrogatives, imperati ves, andrnexclamatory sentences. Echo questions do not have the ir own syntactic structure, but canrnbe constructed from any sentence type
